PRETAVOIR is proud to present Balenciaga’s Spring and Summer 2020 Eyewear composed of delicate frame shapes created with luxurious and reliable materials. Since the house of Balenciaga was founded, it has evolved into a pioneer of modernity, embracing a mixture of revolutionary, dramatic and austere design to create the depictions of modern fashion today.
Each design in the Spring/Summer 2020 collection is innovative and futuristic in its presentation with collection names like ‘GHOST’, ‘CUT’ and ‘CURVE’. Balenciaga introduces continuous, metal lines that go from ear to ear beside wavy arms that are attached to flat top bars and impressive laser-cut lenses that hang in suspended structures.
We are putting a spotlight on two collections within the S/S 2020 Eyewear collection: DYNASTY and RIM.
First, a little background on Balenciaga: Founded by Cristobal Balenciaga in 1917, the Balenciaga House is defined by a worldwide recognition as a leader in major fashion trends due to its creativity, masterful cuts and exquisite techniques.
Since October 2015, Demna Gvasalia, appointed artistic director of Balenciaga’s collections, continues to uphold the vision, influence and radical style of the House.
Balenciaga had a reputation as a couturier of uncompromising standards and innovative designs. The DYNASTY and RIM collections showcase these design elements through each unique design detail - this Spring/Summer 2020 collection consists of sharp angles, striking logos and bold frames.
DYNASTY
Symmetrically folding BB logo golden hinges that separate tapering arms from a vintage-inspired frame characterize the Dynasty line, so named for its reference to the 1980s opulent aesthetic.

Taking inspiration from the 1980s Dynasty, this collection includes both gloss black and havana brown oval and rectangle shaped sunglasses. Made from high-quality acetate in Italy, each frame is completed with logo-engraved smoke-grey or green tinted lenses and signature Balenciaga cutout mirror gold B at each temple.
The BB0095S 002’s glamorously showcase a range of browns, ambers and blacks in their acetate frame, green tinted lenses and white internal logo stamp. Similarly, the BB0095S 001’s cat eyes powerfully present a luxe-black frame with straight arms ending with curved tips and grey lenses. The gold ‘BB’ stands out even further on the BB0096S 001’s which are a narrower, more rectangular, frame.
The BB0095S 002’s glamorously showcase a range of browns, ambers and blacks in their acetate frame, green tinted lenses and white internal logo stamp. Similarly, the BB0095S 001’s cat eyes powerfully present a luxe-black frame with straight arms ending with curved tips and grey lenses. The gold ‘BB’ stands out even further on the BB0096S 001’s which are a narrower, more rectangular, frame.
RIM
The Rim styles are seemingly pulled in several directions, their curves made into corners and their top corners elongated forward, made into visor-like tips. Frames are created via injection, generating a 3-D printed effect.

More futuristic in their design aesthetic, the rim collection possesses striking curves and corners that pulls each frame into mysterious and magnificent shapes. Walking a fine line between a cat-eye frame shape and a rectangular design. The Rim collection is ultra-light and theBB0099S 001’s are emblazoned with the Balenciaga logo printed on top of the visor in a bright white contrasting colour. Similarly, the BB0101S 001’s shield your eyes with their pointed, cat-eye frame.
