Oliver Peoples Sunglasses

About Oliver Peoples Sunglasses

The first Oliver Peoples boutique opened in 1987 on Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles. Larry Leight the founding designer, has created a collection of retro-inspired sunglasses that have become a fashion obsession in his native home of Los Angeles. The collection uses the finest Italian Mazzucelli acetate to produce beautiful colours such as cocobolo (as on this Bernado Sunglass) and carreto tortoise (see this Wacks Sunglass).

The best quality Japanese titanium brings great strength and lightweight qualities to sunglass models such as Benedict and Welles. The original collection was inspired by an auction lot Larry learnt was about to go under the hammer. Following the purchase Larry underwent an almost epiphany of creativity, so strong was the inspiration felt upon delving through the treasure trove of vintage sunglasses. These frames were marked 'Oliver People' hence the brand was born. Larry sold these sun frames in the original shop and such as the demand that it was natural that he would go on to create inspired pieces. Larry now obsesses over each and every aspect of his sunglass collection.

As a trained Optician, he takes a technical interest in the quality of sunglass lenses used and prefers the finest German UV filters manufactured by Carl Zeiss. Most of the lenses have a back surface anti reflection coating important to minimise glare and many sunglass models have a polarising lens option. Oliver Peoples sunglasses are now frequently seen on Hollywood A listers such as Robert Downey Junior, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. The Oliver Peoples sunglass collection has no visible brand logo or other indications that the wearer is a lover of the finest sun wear. Indeed, the actors and other celebrities wearing this brand never receive free or complimentary product - they wear these sunglasses because they choose to. Oliver Peoples sunglasses can be found in the finest Opticians and now online at Pretavoir.
