Walter & Herbert Glasses

Starting from humble beginnings, in September 1946, two young entrepreneurs partnered to establish the Optoplast Manufacturing Company Limited, in the 40 years that followed, Walter Conway and Herbert Thorn enjoyed great success. The duo developed technology such as the PIMO machine, which inserted metal reinforcements into acetate frames with absolute precision. This innovation changed the way eyewear was manufactured worldwide. Today, James Conway and Daniel Thorn continue this legacy at Walter & Herbert, paying homage to the rich history of the Optoplast company, encompassing 70 years of experience. Walter and Herbert create beautiful eyewear designed, made and tested in England, with the same processes founded over the last seven decades. However, James Conway and Daniel Thorn have advanced and modernised the manufacture of the eyewear and created their own collection of frames using materials and techniques that would make Walter and Herbert proud.

The Walter and Herbert optical collection, for men and women, is a beautifully crafted drawing inspiration from the very best of British heritage. Walter & Herbert glasses are named after iconic figures such as Emily Bronte, George Orwell, Winston Churchill, Emmeline Pankhurst and William Shakespeare
, each pair respectfully designed, developed and tested in England. The eyewear utilises striking colourways across a range of high-quality, globally sourced, acetates. And each contour of the frame is perfectly smoothed in order to make the design reminiscent of 1940s British style.
