Carrera Sunglasses - For the Racer in You

Carrera has continuously strived to be at the forefront of design at the helm of popular culture with their classic sunglasses designs. Their eyewear can be seen on celebrities such as Kanye West, Jennifer Lopez, Brad Pitt, Britney Spears and Johnny Depp. The brand's frames have also been featured in many movies, perhaps most notably in Al Pacino’s Scarface - An Italian Classic.

Carrera sunglasses are known for their high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. The collection features a variety of styles to suit different tastes and preferences - some of the most popular include aviators and square-oversized frames.

A Trip Back In Time With Carrera Sunglasses

The history of Carrera dates back to 1956 when Wilhelm Anger, an Austrian sports eyewear maker, founded the company. The name "Carrera" was inspired by the gruelling Carrera Panamericana auto road race in Mexico - considered one of the most dangerous races in the world at the time. In the early days, Carrera primarily focused on producing sports eyewear for athletes, particularly in the skiing and motorcycling industries. The brand quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality craftsmanship and innovative designs, which were developed in collaboration with top athletes.

In 1964 Anger developed and patented a material called ‘Optyl’, a heat-hardened plastic weighing 20% less than acetate. This development reduced allergic reactions and improved the fit of eyewear through a memory effect that provided permanent elasticity and dimensional stability.

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the brand continued to expand its offerings, introducing new styles and technologies that pushed the boundaries of sports eyewear. One of their most iconic designs at this time was the "Champion" sunglasses, which featured a bold, oversized frame alongside a unique shape - it became an instant classic. This style is still recognised as an iconic Carrera design to this day and remains highly popular amongst fans of the brand.

Carrera continues to evolve and adapt to changing trends and technologies while staying true to its roots as a pioneer in sports eyewear. This year Carrera is Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival's official partner.
